Run networking from Zoom

Last updated: September 10, 2026

The host edition is designed for one operator. Attendees join your normal Zoom meeting. They do not need the SCN app, a registration link, or an introduction form.

Start hosting

  1. Start a meeting in the Zoom desktop app using the account authorized for SCN. Breakout rooms must be enabled.
  2. Open SCN Speed Networking from Apps. Stay in the main meeting.
  3. Click Start hosting. The app reads the Zoom roster and selects attendees other than the host and co-hosts.
  4. Uncheck anyone who should not participate. Set the round length and number of rounds, then save settings.
  5. Click Start networking.

During the event

The timer begins after Zoom confirms people have arrived. At the end of each round, everyone returns to the main meeting. With automatic advancement enabled, the app waits briefly and sends the next pairs out. The host stays in the main meeting with the app open.

Pause pauses the timer. Next round ends the current round, returns everyone, and starts the next pairings. End event closes rooms and ends the event. The room list shows Zoom's reported occupants, not just a proposed plan.

People are paired without repeating a completed pairing. With an odd number or no available new partners, some people wait in the main meeting. Chapter matching and permanent anchors are not part of this host edition.

If something stops

Return to the main meeting and use Retry room moves. Keep the same meeting; do not create a replacement event during recovery. The displayed error names the operation that failed. If Zoom cannot verify the app, confirm you opened the installed app associated with the configured credentials. Contact support with the error, never your client secret.

Update app reloads the current app URL with a fresh version parameter. It does not end your Zoom meeting. After updating, reconnect; if the previous host session is still active, allow up to 20 seconds for it to expire.

Test first

Use four guest Zoom participants plus the host to test two rooms and at least two rounds. Browser and mobile Zoom guests can participate. Joining only an SCN webpage does not create a Zoom participant. Automated checks do not replace a real meeting test.

Data and removal

The host sends selected Zoom names and meeting participant identifiers to the encrypted event service for pairing and recovery. Immediate event records expire after 24 hours. Existing planned records expire 24 hours after their scheduled start. The host edition does not collect audio, video, introductions, or scheduling links.

To remove the app, sign into Zoom Marketplace, open My Library, find SCN Speed Networking, and select Remove. End your event first. Removal does not immediately delete retained event records; contact support for a data request.
